Trump has demanded reparations from China over the coronavirus

According to former US President Donald Trump, China must pay "reparations" to the world for the $ 60 trillion COVID-19 pandemic, writes The Washington Times. The publication reminds that one of the versions about the appearance of the coronavirus is its "leakage" from the laboratory. In addition, according to the editorial board, many are of the opinion that Beijing did not inform the World Health Organization in time about the threats posed by the new virus.

"China has to pay, they have to do something. They have to pay reparations, and China has no money to do so. I'm talking not only about the United States, but about the whole world - $ 60 trillion in damages must be paid. "China does not have that amount, but it will have to do something to make amends for what it has done," the paper quoted Trump as saying.

The author of the article explains: China discovered the new coronavirus in November 2019, but announced it in December. According to experts, this delay has led to an escalation of the pandemic. And it is not yet clear how the virus came to be. The version of the incident in the laboratory of the Institute of Virology in Wuhan cannot be ruled out.

"I think the origin of the virus is clear. "If someone has a different opinion, they are mistaken," Trump said. It is recalled that in May, about 20 of the greatest scientists published a letter calling for further investigation into the causes of the virus. They noted that both theories of accidental laboratory leaks and animal-to-human transfers remain plausible.

Chinese authorities, for their part, have denied the version that the virus leaked from the laboratory. A report by WHO experts was released in March, but after a visit to China, could not identify the exact causes of the virus, but noted that during the trip there were restrictions on their work imposed on them by Beijing. Therefore, the head of the WHO said that their findings are not enough and the investigation needs to continue, notes The Washington Times.
