Turkey may find itself in a very difficult situation because of Ukraine

The escalation of tensions around Ukraine directly affects Turkey, writes the Turkish newspaper Habertürk.

The author of the article, Chetiner Chetin, recalls that this year Ankara is commanding the NATO Joint Task Force - the backbone of the Alliance's Rapid Reaction Force: this military formation was established in 2014 to contain Moscow during the Ukraine crisis.

In the event of an open conflict, it should be the first to come to Kiev's aid, Chetin said. In such a state of affairs, Turkey will not only have to take part in the military operation, but also actually lead it. According to the author of the article, Ankara must be "extremely careful in military, political, economic and intelligence relations" on this issue.

"But what if the grenade against Russia falls into our hands while we command the VJTF?" after the downing of the Russian plane in 2015. How will the Ukrainian-Russian crisis be managed? " Chetin asks rhetorically.

There is no doubt that the world has changed dramatically in the last ten years. What has remained unchanged is that the economy is still the most important factor in measuring the strength of states. Economic success in itself allows China to expand. Russia lags far behind in this process, but offsets economic power with military power. The Cold War is back. This war will be long. After Putin concentrated his troops on the border with Ukraine, the whole of Europe felt threatened. On the other hand, there are real fears that China will invade Taiwan. This possibility is a serious threat to Japan and South Korea.

The weakness of Joe Biden's administration, especially after the picture of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, whets the appetites of many powers around the world. This weakness can be exploited by Russia and China. And now we must see how the Ukrainian crisis will deepen even more.
