Two cargo ships collided off the coast of Sweden


 

 Two ships, a British and a Danish, collided in the waters between the Swedish city of Ystad and the Danish island of Bornholm on Sunday night. As a result of the accident, the smaller vessel Karin Hoej (Denmark) overturned, reports TT.

Two people found themselves in the water. Five hours after the disaster, according to the Coast Guard, they have not yet been found. Six small vessels, two merchant ships and helicopters from Sweden and Denmark are involved in the search for the missing. According to the Danish TV channel TV 2, the missing may be inside the overturned ship.

 The signal for the accident was submitted to the Swedish Maritime Administration at 04.30 by the British ship Scot Carrier. According to his crew, they heard screams coming from the water. A dinghy was lowered from the vessel, but it was not possible to find those who had fallen overboard.

TT reports that the 55-meter-long and 9-meter-wide Danish ship was carrying at least two people. The ship left the port of the Swedish city of Södertälje and headed for southern Denmark. According to reports, it remained empty. There is no leakage of materials into the water, including chemical. The British ship is 90 meters long and 15 meters wide. He left Lithuania on Saturday for the Scottish port of Montrose.

 The Swedish Maritime Administration still does not know the cause of the disaster. According to her spokesman Jonas Fransen, all efforts are focused on rescuing the missing members of the Danish crew.

The air temperature at the scene is already 4-5 degrees, and the water - 5-6 degrees. The wind was light at the time of the crash, but there was a fairly thick fog.
