Ukraine's foreign minister wants peace by force in Donbass

Ukraine's goal in Donbass is simple: peace by force, according to an article by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in the American magazine Foreign Affairs.

"At this point, the United States and its European allies must talk to Putin to buy time, while strengthening Ukraine to the point where Russia simply will not have a real military capability to invade. "At this point, it will be possible to achieve a just peace settlement in Donbass and finally integrate Ukraine into the EU and NATO," he wrote.

He called on Washington and its European allies to step up "efforts to contain Russia". According to Kuleba, Kiev, together with partners, is already developing a "comprehensive plan to contain Russia."

"The first component is sending clear political signals to Moscow. This means clarifying that Ukraine is part of the West and a future member of the EU and NATO, and that Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity are out of the question." writes the foreign minister.

The second part of the plan, he added, envisions harsh sanctions in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"The third and final part of the plan is to increase military aid to Ukraine," Kuleba said.
