After two days of online discussions on Friday night, it was announced that the Joint Commission on Historical and Educational Affairs had made no progress, according to the macedonian electronic publication Factor.
Macedonian historians have not agreed on anything with their Bulgarian counterparts.
The macedonian side informed that the main differences with their Bulgarian counterparts are in the understanding of the role of history in modern societies.
"After a thorough discussion, the second day showed that both sides are still far from a solution that will improve the educational process and achieve the common goal of building good neighborly relations and friendship, in which the past and different interpretations of history will not be an obstacle." , says a statement by macedonian historians.
Bulgarian historian Angel Dimitrov accused the Republic of Macedonia of not accepting a common history. According to him, the work of the commission will be even more difficult in the future.
"In 2018, we adopted several recommendations, including for the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius. They say that their work has developed in Bulgaria. The same is true of the work of St. Clement. And this is part of the few conclusions adopted and the political leadership of the RM knows about them. On December 8, they returned to the old interpretation, "Dimitrov said.
Meanwhile, macedonian government special envoy Vlado Buckovski is talking about changing textbooks for the Bulgarian media.
This was the fifth and final meeting of the historic commission this year. The next meeting will be in February next year.
