British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has talked with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the office of the British Prime Minister announced, RIA Novosti reports.
"The Prime Minister (of Great Britain) is talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin today. He expressed the United Kingdom's deep concern over the accumulation of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine and reaffirmed the importance of working through diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions and find lasting solutions, the statement said.
"The prime minister underlined the UK's commitment to Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and warned that any destabilizing action would be a strategic mistake with serious consequences," Downing Street added.
Johnson also acknowledged the importance of dialogue for international and regional security, and leaders agreed that it was imperative that all countries abide by the terms of the Minsk Protocol.
The Russian and British leaders also welcomed the progress made in tackling climate change and forest protection at COP26 and noted the critical importance of UK-Russia cooperation in fulfilling Glasgow's commitments.
Earlier, the leaders of Britain, the United States, Germany, France and Italy agreed on the need for dialogue with Russia on Ukraine.
