Britain's Supreme Court has allowed the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States, according to The Guardian, noting that the decision has dealt a severe blow to Wikileaks co-founder's efforts to prevent his extradition to the United States, where he will be tried on espionage charges. However, his defense has the right to challenge the decision.
A package of assurances was presented this year as part of US attempts to override the magistrates' decision in January. Judge Vanessa Baritser then ruled that Assange could not be extradited to the United States due to mental health concerns and the risk of suicide in a US prison. However, the Supreme Court has now overturned the verdict and ruled that the Wikileaks founder could be brought to justice.
