A split in the Democratic Party of Albania

After counting the votes in the poll for the release of current Democratic Party (DP) leader in Albania Lulzim Basha, organized by the party's historic leader Sali Berisha, he turned to the party's headquarters late last night and said he worshiped tens of thousands or more precisely 44,000 Democrats, who have decided to overthrow Basha in a party-wide poll, the Skopje-based online publication 24 Info quoted him as saying.

Earlier, at a meeting of the party's National Assembly convened by Basha, attended by 5,004 delegates out of 7,500, it was decided to exclude Berisha from the party's structures.

Opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha promised at the party's National Assembly on Saturday that he led the force, which will be one of the "cleanest" formations in Albania, the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA) correspondent in Tirana reported.

"There is no place in the structures of the Democratic Party for people working against the western orientation of Albania, with populist deviations and blind nationalism, aiming to destabilize the region and create uncertainty for the future of Albania. The DP should be a guarantee for Albanians who will live in a country with eyes, mind and body facing west. "What the DP will be like today, Albania will be like tomorrow," Basha said.

He added that he would not allow part of the DP to be people who embarrass Albanian society (He means Sali Berisha, who is on the US sanctions list).
