Babish spoke in support of diplomatic talks between NATO and the Russian Federation

Acting Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrei Babiš has spoken out in support of NATO's diplomatic talks with the Russian Federation, provided Russia resolves the situation near its borders with Ukraine. The Prime Minister, who commented on the results of telephone consultations between US President Joe Biden and the leaders of the Bucharest Nine (Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Estonia), was quoted by national radio Cesky Rozhlas.

"If Russia reduces tensions [on the border with Ukraine], then we (the Czech Republic) will not interfere in diplomatic negotiations [between Russia and NATO], but the ball [in the political arena] is now in Russia," Babis said. Any negotiations with Russia will have to take place with the participation of all NATO member states. No country should feel excluded from this negotiation process. "

Babish stressed that no one wants a military conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. "All of us [NATO members] are interested in reducing tensions on the Ukraine-Russia border," he said.
