British scientists have set a deadline for the coronavirus pandemic

According to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) in the UK, the coronavirus will pose a serious threat at least until 2026, RIA Novosti reported.

"SARS-CoV-2 will continue to threaten the health system and will require active vaccination monitoring and data monitoring for at least the next five years," experts said.

According to SAGE, this period may be extended if vaccination measures and general control of the spread of the disease are not effective enough.

In addition, British scientists have found that in the United Kingdom, compared to the rest of Europe, the situation with the increase in morbidity has stabilized. According to them, this was achieved thanks to a widespread vaccination campaign.

However, experts from different countries do not rule out a new wave of coronavirus. This is due to the fact that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 - B.1.1.529 - was identified on 20 November in Botswana and the Republic of South Africa. Researchers note that it is highly transmitted and highly resistant to vaccines. Last week, the World Health Organization declared the strain "of concern" and named it "Omicron" - from the Greek letter "O". It has already been found in more than 40 countries, in Russia, according to the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, no cases of infection with this strain have been registered yet.
