More American military equipment arrived in Alexandroupolis


 US helicopters and other military equipment have arrived in Alexandroupolis (Alexandroupoli), with Greek and US officials describing it as the largest deployment of US forces in the Black Sea region and Eastern Europe, according to the online edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

This week alone, 73 helicopters and 995 pieces of equipment passed through Alexandroupoli, bringing the total to 2,000 at an operating cost to the U.S. military of approximately $ 4.5 million.

  Fifteen Apache helicopters, nine Black Hawks and military personnel are heading to the Stefanoviquejo base in central Greece, where the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade will conduct its winter training.

US Ambassador Jeffrey Payt emphasized the expanding strategic role and importance of the port of Alexandroupolis for Greece, the United States and the region.
