The criminal police department in the German state of Saxony is conducting a special operation in Dresden based on information about an alleged impending assassination attempt against regional Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, BILD reported, citing a post by law enforcement on their Twitter page. It is specified that the threats stem from users who are members of a group in the Telegram.
"In Dresden, the Saxony Criminal Police Service is carrying out an operation involving a special group. "Several sites are currently being searched," the Saxon police said in a statement.
According to the publication, searches are being carried out at a total of six different sites. Five people are suspected. The search warrants were issued on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence threatening the state. Special forces are involved in the operation, as police say statements by individual members of the Telegram group have led to suspicions that they may have cold steel and crossbows.
