Here is the longest train journey

The opening of a railway line in Laos has made it possible to travel by train from Lisbon to Singapore. According to the British newspaper The Times, it will take about three weeks to overcome the longest railway route in the world in history - 18.75 thousand kilometers.

It is noted that the construction of the missing section of the railway in Laos with a length of 414 km was carried out by China, which, as part of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, connects the city of Kunming (southern China) with Vientiane (the capital of Laos). The investment in the five-year project is nearly $ 6 billion.

The newspaper estimates that the train journey from the westernmost country in Europe and ending in Southeast Asia will require a total of 13 trains with transfers and long stays in Paris, Moscow, Beijing and Bangkok. The publication points out that trains between some countries run at increased intervals, so you will have to wait in hotels.

At the same time, during the route itself, some sections of the railway, for example in Thailand, will have to be overcome by not the most convenient trains that stop in every settlement. Given that the railway line will be interrupted on arrival in Vientiane, you will also need to use a bus to take you to the nearest train station in Thailand, 17 km from the Lao capital.

International passenger transport expert Mark Smith said many passengers would want to reach Singapore from Europe by rail. "There has always been a high demand for long-distance train travel. Many people travel to the Far East by the Trans-Siberian Railway. Australians spending time in Europe often use this line instead of returning home directly by plane," he said.
