The certification process for Nord Stream 2 continues, with the rule of law playing a key role. This was announced on Sunday by German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock on the ZDF television channel.
"We discussed this in the framework of the coalition negotiations and prescribed in the coalition agreement that European energy legislation be applied to energy projects. That means that this pipeline cannot be approved at the moment, "she said. According to the minister, the project has so far "not complied with EU guidelines".
In order to start pumping gas, the Nord Stream 2 operator must be approved by the German regulator, which is checking the project for compliance with the European Gas Directive. Certification has already been suspended, as the operator Nord Stream 2 AG, based in Switzerland, has to register a subsidiary in Germany. Until this happens, certification will not continue.
