Space X launches a Turkish satellite into space

Turksat 5B, Turkey's new telecommunications satellite, was launched on December 19th by US aerospace company SpaceX, according to Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News.

The satellite has been launched from the Cape Canaveral spaceport in the US state of Florida to geostationary orbit, where it will use on-board electric amplifiers to provide telecommunications services to Turkey, the Middle East and parts of Africa.

The satellite will reach its 42-degree east longitudinal slot in 164 days, after which a 45-day testing process will begin.

Ordered by European manufacturer Airbus Defense and Space in 2017 and transferred from France to the United States on November 29, the satellite will increase Turkey's Ka-band capacity by more than fifteen times.

The satellite, which is equipped with a new generation switching system, is expected to last more than 35 years.

On September 17, the Turkish government announced that SpaceX will launch Turksat 6A, the first communications satellite built in Turkey, in the first quarter of 2023.

On December 16, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a video interview with Elon Musk, the founder of Space X, to discuss the launch process. Turkey currently has eight active satellites, along with Turksat 5B.
