The Democracy Summit will not make America more secure

Global issues such as preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, fighting international terrorism and pandemics, and mitigating the effects of climate change require all countries, especially the United States, to cooperate with other countries, researcher Sasha Glaser wrote in an article in The National Interest.

According to the author, US President Joe Biden, who is organizing the democracy summit, sees Washington's foreign policy as a rivalry with Russia and China, which only complicates the US position, creates a conflict situation and limits it to difficult situations.

"Liberal democracy remains the greatest form of government invented by mankind. However, the last three decades have shown that attempts to spread this ideal abroad by force are counterproductive and doomed to failure," Glazar said.

Instead, he said, the United States should set an example at home by ensuring American safety and reasonably pursuing its strategic interests abroad, regardless of ideology. As an example of the unification of different political forces in the struggle for common security, the observer cites the union of the United States and the Soviet Union during the war with Nazi Germany.

The democracy summit is scheduled for December 9-10. Washington has invited 110 countries, with the exception of Russia and China. As Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said, the event is aimed at Moscow and Beijing, "the American side is trying to teach us how to live."
