The GSDP Congress approved a coalition deal with the Greens and the Liberals

The German Social Democratic Party (GSDP) voted to approve the coalition agreement with the Greens and Free Democrats (FDP) during a party congress on Saturday, Deutsche Welle reported.

598 delegates voted in favor, 7 against and three abstained. the document received the approval of 98.8% of the representatives of local organizations.

Prior to the vote, future Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is Angela Merkel's deputy chancellor and finance minister, and party leaders Saskia Esken and Norbert Walter-Boryans delivered speeches.

Scholz said the COVID-19 pandemic was "the most important first task we need to tackle." We must protect the health of our citizens and fight the pandemic with all our might. "

An "entirely new campaign" was needed as early as this month to improve the country's vaccination rate and the introduction of booster vaccines, he added.

The new coalition was named "Traffic Light" after the colors of the parties - red for the GSDP, green for the Greens and yellow for the FDP.

The Liberal Congress will be held on Sunday, and the Greens are currently conducting polls for their members. The results of the vote will be announced on Monday.
