Differences in approach and understanding of the role of history and historical education in modern societies and building good relations free from politicizing history between Bulgarian and Macedonian historians remain, according to a statement issued after the two-day 16th regular meeting of the Joint Multidisciplinary Expert the Commission on Historical and Educational Affairs, held online, informed the Skopje electronic publication "Observer" in a material; presented without editorial intervention.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, during the two days "the members of the commission again discussed remarks on history textbooks, where they encountered the concept of multiperspectivity with the exclusionary approach."
"The approach, based on the positive European experience and the recommendations of the Council of Europe and UNESCO, remain at the heart of the Macedonian side's work in the Commission and hence the main misunderstandings with colleagues from Sofia." historical education, which presupposes a multi-perspective and interdisciplinary approach, "the RM Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
After a thorough discussion, the second day showed that the two countries are still far from a solution that will improve the educational process and achieve the common goal of building good neighborly relations and friendship, in which the past and different interpretations of history will not be an obstacle.
During the two days, the statement said, the members of the commission also worked on harmonizing the content of the minutes of previous meetings. The date for the next meeting, which will be held on February 24 and 25 next year, has also been agreed.
