The Supreme Court of Great Britain rejected a claim for gender-neutral passports

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has rejected a lawsuit filed by activist Christy Elan-Kane, who claims that the mention of men and women in passports violates human rights, reports The Independent.

"For [passport document], gender is part of the biographical information that can be used to verify identity by comparing this information with [information contained in] birth certificates, adoption certificates and other [documents]." , the publication was quoted by the judge in the case - Robert Reed. "Therefore, gender matters in these documents."

He also noted that a unified approach to gender is needed at the state level. Changing the form of the passport is highly undesirable and will create major problems if other official documents are not corrected. "There is no law in the United Kingdom that recognizes people without sex," Reed concluded.

The applicant did not agree with that decision and stated that she would seek a retrial in the European Court of Human Rights.

Christie Elan-Kane has been campaigning for more than 25 years to achieve legal and social recognition of genderless identity, the publication recalls.
