The Turkish lira continues to appreciate

The Turkish lira continued its sharp rise from record lows earlier in the week after the government took a series of measures to support the currency, the Turkish daily Daily Sabah reported.

The pound rose another 12 percent to $ 10.85 a dollar, bringing its total weekly rise to more than 40 percent, and it is its best weekly performance to date, albeit in less liquid holiday markets.

The currency was boosted this week after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the government and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) would guarantee certain deposits in local currency against losses from currency devaluations.
