The White House is concerned about the threat of commercial spyware

The US administration is concerned about the threat that commercial spyware poses to US employees. This was stated at a briefing by White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, commenting on reports of hacking iPhone devices of State Department officials using software from the Israeli company NSO Group, reports TACC.

"We are deeply concerned that commercial spyware, such as that of the NSO Group, poses a serious threat to US counterintelligence and security," she said.

For this reason, she said, the US government "has stepped up efforts by the entire administration to counter and limit the spread of these commercial hacking tools."

At the same time, Psaki did not comment directly on the incident with the State Department employees in question.

Earlier, Reuters, citing its sources, reported that the iPhones of at least nine State Department officials had been hacked in the past few months. The attacks were carried out using software developed by the NSO Group. According to the agency, this is the largest known case of hacking devices of American employees using the technology of this company.

In late November, Apple filed a lawsuit against the NSO Group and its parent company Q Cyber Technologies for spying on users of Apple devices.
