Ukrainians are afraid of a Russian invasion

A relative majority of Ukrainians (39.2%) believe that accepting Russian President Vladimir Putin's demands not to admit Ukraine to NATO will weaken their country's security, as it will only inflame the Russian head of state's aggression against Ukraine, according to a study of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), held on December 13-16, writes the Ukrainian newspaper "Capital".

At the same time, 29.7% of respondents believe that the adoption of such a requirement will improve Ukraine's security because it will weaken Putin's aggression towards the country, and another 31.1% of respondents have not decided on their opinion.

49.2% of respondents believe that the threat of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is real. However, 41.4% of respondents do not expect an invasion. 57.8% of respondents believe that the diplomatic and defense efforts of the authorities to prevent the invasion of the Russian Federation are insufficient, and 27.1% consider them sufficient.

The vast majority of people in western and central Ukraine support both EU and NATO membership. Support for Euro-Atlantic integration is lower in the south and east. However, in the event of EU accession, a majority of the population in the southern and eastern regions of the referendum would support such a decision, and in the case of NATO accession, the votes "for" and "against" would be divided equally.
