Zaev resigns next week

The Prime Minister of the Republic of  Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, has announced his resignation as prime minister next week. He expects Dimitar Kovachevski to be his successor as the new prime minister after his resignation, and the government's first success will be the first intergovernmental conference with the EU, according to the Skopje-based Nezavisen newspaper.

"These days we are concluding the consultations with the coalition partners. What I can say is that important processes are being completed, both programmatically and governmentally and in terms of personnel, so I will make the decision sometime early next week and as soon as I make it, I will immediately announce when it will be officially before the parliament. "Zaev told TV24 after officially handing over the function of Dimitar Kovachevski's party chairman at the SDSM headquarters in the evening.

Regarding the Bulgarian veto, Zaev does not lose hope that the new Bulgarian government will give positive reactions. He says the Macedonian side is available to clarify details with the government in Sofia.

"Knowing that the new Bulgarian government was formed on the 13th, you cannot expect a decision to be made on the 14th of the General Affairs Council, where the ministers are present. I really do not lose hope that the new Bulgarian government with the help of President Radev will give positive reactions. We have finally given our answers and I believe that all misunderstandings have been resolved. If details remain, we are available as a state, under the leadership of the future prime minister, to clarify and discuss them, "Zaev said.
