A strong earthquake was registered near the Macedonian-Greek border tonight, aftershocks continue


 

 A magnitude 5.5 earthquake was registered on Sunday at 22:43 local time (coincides with the Bulgarian time) in northern Greece, near the border with the Republic of Northern Macedonia, according to a page on the website of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, quoted by the Skopje newspaper Nezavisen

The quake struck four kilometers north of the town of Lerin (Florina) and 137 kilometers south of Skopje.

The earthquake was felt strongly in northern Greece and in almost the entire territory of the RSM, as well as in the region of Petrich in Bulgaria.

 Authorities in northern Greece have reported damage to residential buildings, but there are no reports of injuries. Cracks and other minor damage to buildings have also been reported in the southern part of the Macedonia, and many Bitola residents have spent the night outside their homes.

The aftershocks in the region continue.
