Scholz plans to meet with Putin in January

The new Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz expects to meet with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in the coming weeks, writes the German newspaper BILD.

Scholz would like to take an active part in Russia's policy. According to a source who requested anonymity, the chancellor hopes for "new quality relations" with Moscow. The German Foreign Ministry is now headed by the "green" Analena Burbock, who has made several harsh statements against Russia since her appointment in early December.

There is currently no official confirmation of the information about a planned meeting between Scholz and Putin.

The Russian president and Scholz have already had a telephone conversation. On December 21, Putin briefed the German chancellor in detail on Moscow's proposals for security guarantees in Europe to the United States and its allies. The parties also discussed issues of resolving the conflict in Donbass.
