The Cypriot foreign minister has resigned

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis published a statement on Sunday, in which he revealed that he resigned a few days ago and hinted at a possible candidacy for president in the 2023 elections, writes the electronic edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

"My resignation is the result of a series of events and statements, public and others, that have recently taken place and seriously affected the important role of the government," Christodoulidis said, adding that "my goal has always been to pursue wildlife-free policies." to those who show their teeth unnecessarily. ”

Christodoulidis also commented on the upcoming presidential election in 2023 and hinted that he would run in it. However, he emphasized that he was only interested in the Cypriot presidency and not in the ruling Democratic Movement political party, citing incumbent Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis as a precedent for merging the two posts.

"I can honestly say that I would be interested in the 2023 presidential election, especially if my nomination could lead to greater cooperation," the outgoing minister said, concluding that Cypriot society does not need sharks, but from a good captain who can unite broad political forces and build a strong foundation for cooperation, both domestically and internationally.

Ioannis Casoulides, Christodoulides' predecessor as foreign minister, will succeed him. Kasulidis has a lot of experience, having been Minister of Foreign Affairs for a total of 11 years (1997-2003, 2013-2018).
