Kazakhstan's special services have detained former chairman of the republic's National Security Committee (KNS) Karim Massimov on suspicion of treason. This was announced by the press service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, quoted by TACC.
On January 6 this year, the National Security Committee launched a pre-trial investigation into treason under Art. 175 of Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On the same day, former KNS chairman Karim Massimov and others were detained on suspicion of committing this crime, the statement said.
Massimov, 56, was relieved of his post as chairman of the KNS by a decree of Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev on January 5th. On the same day, Ermek Sagimbaev, the former head of the State Security Service, was appointed the new head of the Committee.
