NATO may agree to withdraw its troops beyond its borders with Russia as part of security talks with Moscow. As reported by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, the Alliance is ready to take such a step in the event of a reduction in tensions on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
It is noted that the de-escalation of the situation in the region means the withdrawal of Russian troops from the border with Ukraine. At the same time, the newspaper emphasizes, NATO will refuse to negotiate a refusal to refuse eastward enlargement, as the Alliance's statutory documents provide for the possibility of other countries joining.
Earlier, the American television company NBC reported that discussions between the United States and Russia on security issues in Europe could cover the issue of reducing the number of forces and the frequency of exercises in the eastern part of the region, but only if these actions are reciprocal.
