And India has tested a supersonic missile

On Tuesday, India tested an improved ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, designed for the country's navy. This was announced by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Twitter, TASS reports.

"An improved anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was launched today by the destroyer Visakhapatnam. The missile hit its target exactly, "the ministry said. The tests were conducted on the west coast of India.

In early December, India successfully tested an aircraft version of the BrahMos, which was launched by a Su-30MKI fighter jet at the Chandipur test site in the eastern state of Odisha. The supersonic cruise missile was manufactured by the Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace. It was developed by the Russian NGO Mechanical Engineering and DRDO. The first test of the missile was in 2001. Different versions are in service in all three types of Indian Armed Forces: Air Force, Navy and Land Forces.

The newest missile destroyer, Visakhapatnam, was handed over to the Indian Navy last November. The ship is armed with 16 anti-ship supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles.

As Indian Defense Minister Rajnat Singh said earlier, the BrahMos missile, named after the Indian and Russian rivers Brahmaputra and Moscow, is a symbol of the strategic partnership between Russia and India. Singh stressed that BrahMos missiles "have improved the Indian military's ability to repel threats and raised the country's military status to an international level."
