The Kremlin called the new possible US sanctions "unlimited"

The possible imposition of new sanctions, including personally against the Russian president, which was announced in Washington, can in fact be equated with the severance of relations. But there is hope that this is just a "rattling of weapons," said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the president of the Russian Federation, in response to questions from journalists, quoted by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

"We assess the appearance of such documents and statements extremely negatively, especially against the background of a series of negotiations, although unsuccessful," Peskov said. Combining them with the consultations is an attempt to put pressure on Moscow, "a priori meaningless, because we are talking about sanctions that, in fact, and given the inevitable adequate response, can be equated with a severance of relations," he said.

"It simply came to our notice then. They do not contribute to the search for mutually acceptable solutions and the formation of a constructive atmosphere in the course of the three-stage negotiations, "Peskov concluded. "The answer is simple - no," he repeated.

Speaking about plans to impose sanctions on banks in connection with the Nord Stream-2 project, the president's spokesman noted that Moscow would not respond yet. "We still want to hope for the victory of at least some common sense and that these are just statements that are causing a fuss about pressure," he explained.

"Nord Stream is a commercial project and linking it to security issues in Europe is absurd," Peskov said. This shows what is behind it - attempts to put pressure on Russia, unfair economic competition, etc., he added. "And that underscores once again our correctness when we talk about our concerns and that we have nowhere to go and it is time to take our concerns into account," the president's spokesman said.

Asked if there would be a mirror reaction to the US president if Washington accepts the sanctions, Peskov said imposing sanctions on the Russian head of state "is an outrageous measure comparable to disrupting relations". "Russia is always ready and will do what is in the best interests of our country," he concluded.
